Before you arrive

It can be surprising how much time it can take to prepare, especially if you are cosplaying. Consider realistic deadlines to get parts of costumes finished and same for stuff you order online.

Be sure to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as there is usually a membership limit and they tend to fill particularly quickly when it is almost filled. This also goes for booking accommodation as the cheaper and closer it is, the quicker it may fill. Also, save, save, save moneys!

Consider joining the forums
Forums are a fantastic way of getting to know others well as keeping up to date with the news. If there are any particular events happening, perhaps thc way to get an insight of what kind of people to expect. They also serve as a help desk for your preparation ere is a thread on that so you can mingle with others who are interested and you can even organise photo shoots with those cosplaying from the same series/game!

Do your homework on the area you will be staying at
Places to eat, public transport, photography locations, getting there…ect. It will save time during the weekend. If you are staying in a hotel in the middle of a city it might be a fun idea to explore during precon but if it’s far away from civilisation then it would really, really, help if you know where to eat, what modes of transport are available to get into town if needed and getting around in general.

Feeling bored? Perhaps consider joining a competition or contribute
Look around the website and see how you can have fun before even stepping foot onto the train there! If you enjoy drawing or writing perhaps consider creating something for the conbook and if you are more technical how about the AMV competition? Lets not forget the Cosplay competition if you are up for a challenge!

Be sure to read the guidelines before working on your artlcle, art or AMV. There are often limits (such as word counts, picture size or running time for AMVs) so it is best to check first to avoid any disappointment. If you hear nothing after a few days of submitting your work be sure to e-mail the person in charge of the event (there will be contact details on the event page on the convention's website).

GLOWSTICKS!!!!
Seriously! Go mad on them! Buy as many as possible! Just do it!!! (I have been known to bring 100!)

Buy a notebook or make some contact cards
This is a step that alot of people regret not doing each year. You will meet a cool bunch of people there and there will be some you would like to keep in contact with. A lot if new friendships happen too!

Keep little boxes that you could safely store little bits and bobs
‘I fancy some marshmallows! Hey, these come with a little tin box! So cute!’If you buy a product or receive a gift that comes with either a tin, a toiletries bag, a jewellery case or any reusable box then I’d recommend you keep a hold on to them! Not only would they provide a handy storage space for little accessories or sewing equipment, but they would also be able to fit into your luggage nice and cozy as you pack! Collect them in all kinds of shapes and sizes and make a habit of deciding which would be suitable for what. Keep them separated by character so you can gain east access to them.
